Tree service questions, answered straight

The questions Treasure Coast homeowners ask before hiring a tree service — insurance, permits, cost, HOAs, topping, stumps and storms.

Is your tree service licensed and insured?

Florida doesn't license tree services statewide, so 'licensed' can mean little — what protects you is insurance. Our crews carry general liability and workers' compensation written specifically for tree work, and we send the certificate before we climb. Always ask any tree company for that certificate; if a climber is hurt on your property without workers' comp, you can be liable.

Do I need a permit to remove a tree in Port St. Lucie?

For a tree on an established, platted single-family lot inside the city, usually not — those lots are exempt from the tree-preservation rules in Chapter 154. Vacant lots, commercial property, protected specimen trees, and addresses in unincorporated St. Lucie or Martin County are different and may need a permit. We check your specific address before cutting. See our permit guide.

How much does tree work cost?

Removals run roughly $300 to $6,500 depending on size, species, what's underneath and access; trimming $150 to $2,000; palm trimming $75 to $400 a palm; stump grinding $75 to $600. You always get an itemized written price on site, good for 30 days. See our cost guide for the full breakdown.

Do you really answer 24/7?

Yes — a real person and a callback with a time, every day, hurricane season included. When a tree's on the house at 2 AM, the first hour matters.

Do you top trees?

No. Topping a shade tree ruins it — it forces weak regrowth that breaks in storms and shortens the tree's life, and the city's code treats it as tree damage. We reduce and thin to ANSI A300 standards instead, and trim palms to the UF/IFAS standard, not the 'hurricane cut.'

Do you require a deposit?

No deposit is due until you've approved a written price and we've scheduled the work. Be cautious of anyone who wants a large cash deposit up front, especially after a storm.

What happens to the wood and debris?

Chipped on site and hauled, or left as chips or firewood rounds if you'd rather keep them. Big trunks go on the log truck. Storm debris can be staged at the right-of-way for county pickup or hauled by us — your call.

Can you handle my HOA's paperwork?

Yes. PGA Village, Tesoro, Tradition, the Cascades and the gated St. Lucie West communities require board or ARB approval for removals and larger pruning; we prepare the arborist assessment, scope, photos and insurance certificate and manage the submission.

Will you grind the stump too?

Yes, as a separate line on the estimate — ground 8 to 12 inches below grade, surface roots chased, and backfilled so you can sod or plant over it. We also grind stumps other companies left behind.

How fast can you come out for a quote?

Usually within a day for a standard quote, faster for a genuine hazard. After a storm we prioritize trees on structures first and give you an honest place in line when you call.
